ILM at the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden

Groundwork North Wales ILM project at the Victorian Walled Kitchen Garden at the 16th Century Mostyn Estate in Flintshire provided opportunities for 32 young unemployed people.

The team at Mostyn have worked hard to restore the kitchen gardens to their former glory. A range of vegetables and herbs have been grown, including leeks, potatoes, carrots, parsnips, beans and pumpkins.

The produce has been sold to local businesses such as Café Florence at Loggerheads as well as Trust staff, volunteers and staff from the Mostyn Estate. The income generated through these sales has been reinvested back into the development of the garden.

While on the programme, the team received regular employability support, with CV and application form writing, interview techniques and  on and offline job searching techniques. As a result of their work experience and the on-going support, many participants have moved into employment or further learning at the end of their placement.  All participants have gained formal qualifications and new skills.
