Lord Mostyn hosted the ‘Celebrating Philanthropy Concert’ at Mostyn Hall on the evening of 29th October, which launched the ‘Wales International Harp Festival’. The evening was organised and sponsored by the Community Foundation in Wales.
Guests of the foundation were treated to a Harp Recital which was composed by Elinor Bennett. There were performances by Elinor and her very talented young pupils, Elfair Grug Dyer and Mared Williams.
The beneficiaries of the evening were:
Organisation: Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias
Project Name: Wales International Harp Festival III
The project is supported by the Arts Council for Wales, and the festival events include the International Competition for young professional harpists under the age of 30, and three other competitions designed to encourage every level of harp playing.
The Wales International Harp Festival is unique and is dedicated to providing performance experiences of the very highest quality for the benefit of all members of the community in Wales and to promoting the harp as the national instrument of Wales, both nationally and internationally.
Organisation: Mostyn Estates Ltd
Project Name: Mostyn Kitchen Garden
Set in the grounds of Mostyn Hall, this remarkable 18th Century Walled Garden is run as a social enterprise. On a weekly basis local schools, community groups, special needs groups, charities and other organisations volunteer to come to the garden to help grow fruit and vegetables, which are then cultivated by the various groups and are sold to local food co-operatives. The aim of the enterprise is to support education, health and prosperity across all demographics of the community.
