Rocket’s Island – Local Filming Takes Off

ROCKETS ISLANDLlandudno and the surrounding area has long been known for its picturesque scenery and rugged landscape, and now that setting, familiar to so many people, is about to gain an even bigger audience.

During the summer months, Lime Pictures have been filming a  drama for Children’s BBC in Penrhyn Beach – the area will be known as “Dirgelmor” in the series, a small island off the coast of North Wales.

The island is home to the Boulsworth Family, who live and run the Knot Farm, as well as playing host to a number of foster children who come to stay with them. Each episode of Rocket Island follows an individual story, and uses the local countryside as the attractive setting for the narrative to unfold.

The production has not only provided a splendid backdrop for what could well become a timeless classic, but it has also boosted the economy of the local area. During filming, there were upwards of 60 crew using local hotels, bars and restaurants, providing a welcome boost to local business owners.
